Default PROBLEM, topping out at 80?

So i was driving on the freeway today in my 02 ws6 (A4) and i was doing about 68mph when i punched it to squeeze through some cars but my car felt like it kinda died out at about 80mph almost as if it was hitting a speed limiter...any ideas on why it would do that?....does it have anything to do with my TCS?

So, is it actually hitting the rev limiter, or it just feels like it is? Sounds almost like a fuel issue if you aren't hitting the limiter.

Its not actally hitting the limiter but it just wont keep picking up speed the way it normaly would...if i launch from a dead stop then i can go past 100 with no problem...it just seems weird that it did this on the freeway....i didnt wanna keep on trying to do it cus i didnt wanna mess anything up but im going to try a couple other things later today...

It may have not shifted out of high gear and that would cause it to feel much slower.

Are you getting a "Low Trac" light on your dash when it happens? Also, are you throwing any codes? Does the engine actually bog down or does it seem like it free revs when it does this? I would be tempted to suspect the 3-4 clutch pack.

Haha my Camaro felt exactly like that, except at 40 MPH. 200 feet down the road I ran outta gas...

Sorry didn't sse the part about running fine when you launch it. Guessing not the trans. Mine didn't like sfifting from 1-2 and hit the rev-limiter before the shift. Rebuilt it with high performance parts and it WORKS GREAT NOW.
