Weird problems with new converter
so i have 4l60e aftermarket built brand new, edge performance 3000 stall converter. just installed it, put it in drive and it revs to almost 2800 to even move. i know this is not right. manufacturer says should pull away at aroun 1400 or so. it does not want to move at all in drive and converter feels really loose. but, put it in reverse... and its right there no prob moves at 1400. im confused! theres plenty of fluid in converter, harnesses are good, and its seated on pump housing fine. i have been told it may be forward speed sensors intranny that are being confused by high stall and its going into limp mode? please help lol. thanks!
When I first did my 3600 I took it for a ride. It took so much rpm to get the car to move it was crazy! Come to find out I underestimated how much trans fluid came out when I swaped tcs. . It ended up being really low on fluid and THAT made the tc VERY loose. Are you sure you have enough fluid in there? Does the car have any codes?
Well I could double check I guess. That's possible I suppose... It's jus so weird. I didn't think it would be that tho because reverse gear works fine and converter still spins same in reverse tranny is just what changes.. So I assumed converter was Workin ok?
Weird things happen when your to low on fluid. The tc can seem loose and shifts can seem funky. I remember last summer I decided to go wot on the highway and it bounced off rev limiter. The car never did that before so I looked and I was low. This is after I changed my trans cooler. Gotta make sure that fluid is right in these trans.
But yea my tc is just fine. After filling the trans with correct amount of fluid its been great.

Yes, limp mode 2nd gear start will pull ignorant rpms to get moving. Its not fun at all. Turning the car off and back on after a few seconds should clear it. It may set again though. Mine will only throw limp mode when I apply too much gas directly after a shift. The computer thinks the shift didn't take place and throws the fault. That can be fixed with a tune though. First you do need to verify fluid level. Second see if you can manually select first. I would expect to see 2k to get the car moving even halfway decent. If its in second take off and see how the converter feels once driving at speed. You should know first gear from second gear once you are moving.

Ok so I checked fluid everything is fine. I talk to some techs at the shop i work at and they all said that if reverse is good but drive slips horribly it's Probably not high stall converter it's bad internals on tranny.. Could tuning really affect it that bad? I'm pretty confused on what's goin on still. I mean it slips up til 3000 and it's supposed to be locked up by that rpm. Will TCM tuning really change it that much? Or is tranny possibly scrap?
