Default 4L60E Slips in 3rd gear

Sorry if this been asked here before, but i searched a lot i couldn't find my answer.
Its 2007 Envoy with 4.2L & 4l60e trany.
it started slipping in 3rd gear.No trouble codes
i tore it down found the 3-4 cluches fried, all the rest of the trans. looked good,so i cleaned it very well and installed new 3-4 cluches and most of the seals and gasket that came with kit following the manual.
2 things i noticed
1- 3/4 cluches were kind of dry, like not enough fluid getting there
2- the clearence in 3/4 cluch suppose to be 1.90 mm-2.10 mm according to the manual, but it was like 3 mm.

put it back together it drove good for 2 days then again same problem, slipping in the 3rd gear, now i have it apart again and seems the 3l4 cluches burning again.
what should i look for to solve this problem?
thanks for any help in advance.

I probably would have put a pressure gauge on the trans before puling it to see what is going on here. If you had two back to back failures in the same circuit it tells me that you either have a leak in that circuit or an issue with low pressure. Make sure while you have it apart that the input shaft to stator tube bushings look good and also that the inside of the stator tube is not damaged. I would also suggest making sure that the boost valve is in good shape and I would probably install a new EPC solenoid if you did not the last time around. HTH Vince

I would say its really loose. I normally do not measure clutch clearance using the metric system however for every mm you get ruffly .040. At 3mm you have .118 which IMO is way to loose. I would verify that you have .106 steels and also that your frictions are .080 in thickness. If that is what you have then you might want to consider getting a thicker pressure plate or apply plate. The pressure plate you have is probably .192. I would look to get the next size up which I believe is .227. There are two different apply plates as well one being .225 and the other being .215. You can generally play with the different apply and pressure plates to get your desired clutch clearance. Also if you find that you on the tight side you can install a 4l65E friction or steel in your pack to loosen it up. HTH Vince

Edit on a stock unit I would shoot for .040-.060. Rule of thumb is .008-.010 per friction.

There is #1 check ball located in the case right next to the 3-4 accumulator and the #7 ball that is near the servo assembly for third gear. The #7 ball is in a capsule and should not come out of the case. If this ball was missing you would not have third gear at all. It might be a good idea to make sure that there are not any debris in this area and also take a punch and lightly tap on the ball to make sure it seats/seals well. Vince
