Default Switching out my T56 . . .

for a TH400. Started last week. Got a deal for a 'built' TH400 with two stalls(3400 & 4000), drive shaft, tail mount crossmember, trans cooler and stuff.

Being who I am, I couldn't leave the bolts alone. They had to be ARP so the ordering began on ebay/Jegs. . . Having read a few horror stories about the flex plates turning to shrapnel I also got myself a SFI bell housing, shield and flex plate. Everything arrived and last night I began cleaning and prepping my new toys only to find out the flex plate was for SBC, not Gen III So... I also found my oil leak I've had for a while too on the rear seal. Got the new seals in and cleaned that up a bit today then started assembly. Being who I am, I need pictures

It came with a B&M Pro Ratchet shifter

Thoughts?

Now that I'm looking at this post... How do you get the torque converter bolts in there???? Drivers side tight fit corner near the oil pan???

EDIT... figured out the starter needs to be removed to do this........

I have a th400 now and am swapping to an 80. With 4.10 gears and a 3500 converter the car does not like the freeway. Get used to a lot of rpms on the freeway. If its a track car then rock on.

Ouch, lol. Is the car a high powered car? Turbo or sc? Why the switch to a TH400?

Check out my thread up top. Just finished a th350 swap with a fti 4200 stall and 4.10s. I love it. Tq converter bolts go in by the oil pan. You need to remove the starter.

I figured the starter thing yesterday Just about got it installed today/tonight.

Not pictured here anywhere so far is a little sleeve that connects the snout on the torque converter to the center/inside of the crank shaft... the sleeve I had got too much paint on it in the past few days (my fault) and after cleaning it off, it still didn't fit right. sanded the inside of the crank tail, the outside of the sleeve and still doesn't fit quite right for me. Need to remove a few thousandths from the sleeve.

So I have a new appreciation for those contraptions called trans jacks :/ . . . . Since I didn't have one, I improvised with 2x4s.... lots and lots of 1' 2x4s....

I've got new grade 9 bolts for the torque convertor, new grade 8's for the housing to engine block, new carb studs for my intake along w/a new 4150 gasket, hose and brake line for a vacuum line for the intake-vacuum control on the transmission. I need to mount the trans cooler somewhere (probably up front).

Anyone know what the two electrical connections on the drivers side of my tail shaft are? One is a single male prong sticking out and the other looks like a dual connect female socket. What do you look for externally on a th400 to see if you're packing a trans brake?

Thanks,

D
