Default 3-4 snap ring broke out

What normally causes the 3-4 snap ring to break out of the drum?

I lost 3rd gear and thats what I found, clutches look good for the most part, though the 3-4 clutches are a little burned.

Jay is right, too much line pressure can and will cause the input drum lugs to fail.

Has your transmission been repaired or replaced recently? Also has your check engine light been on? There are several DTC's that will cause max line pressure. You might want to verify that when you get it back up and running.

Give me a call if you need anything.

I have found that anything over 245-250 psi. at WOT will start to break parts occasionally according to a couple of builders that I know. I like to keep it at no more than 235-240 psi. max. That way your chance of breaking things doesn't happen to often. The input drum can fail for different reasons, all of them stated so far. I have seen them fail also without any of the above reasons, just a flaw in the aluminum drum that gradually showed itself.
