Question 4L60E Tailshaft housing

So i am pretty sure I broke the tailshaft housing on the trans this weekend.

What does something like this usually cost to fix?

Thanks

Get a new tail shaft housing and replace it. Worse case youll need a new oring, seal, and bronze bushing that goes inside the housing. Four bolts and it comes off. Did you bend the output shaft? Mine did when I cracked my tailshaft housing.

I hope I didn't bend the output shaft but if I did I'll be putting a 300M billet one in because I was going to do it one day anyways.

I was thinking it would be an easy fix if nothing internally was damaged.

Thanks for the reply.

I broke mine last year when my drive shaft broke while doing 80mph. I found one locally for $20.00. My tranny guy put a new seal in there and bolted it on for me.

We have a ton of tranny places around here, thousands of used parts.

They're on ebay right now for as little as $29.95.

Not sure which one you need though:

I don't know if that is the one I need or if it is the 6 bolt one.

I just PM'd FLT to see what they use on the level 5 that I have.

I'm pretty sure it's this one.

Anybody else have this happen?

I'm surprised it doesn't happen more or maybe I'm the only moron with the TA mounted to the tailshaft housing still.

Tailshafts break often because the torque arm is constantly tugging on it. I personally would run a relocation cross member from BMR or UMI and run a truck tail. Remember if you are going back stock you have to have one with the molded torque arm mount. Because the relo cross members move the torque arm off the transmission, you can run a standard tail which is easy to acquire from trucks and such since they don't have torque arms. Thats the setup I'm currently running. Junkyard tail off a truck going on my trans at the builder's shop:

Now thats a good way to do it. I really do just need to bite the bullet and get an aftermarket TA with relocation bracket.

You can run a stock TA with the relo bracket. I did it for some time.

Probably should do that until I do get a aftermarket TA.

Yep they are pricey, but better then breaking tailshafts and doing more damage then that to the trans. I got mine used here for around $160 shipped, so there are deals out there.

My tranny is an FLT from way back. Those tail housings are all over the place around here. Mine is a 6 bolt.

I can check for you if you give me a part number or just tell me which bolt pattern you need.

PM me.......

Looks like a direct replacement. Just need a TA relocation bracket.
