TH400 vs. PowerGlide (RX-7 Content)
Alright, here's the info you should need to know:
2900LBs
Daily driver, some track time, little highway usage
22 year old driver that doesn't really care about loudness or MPG
600RWHP 5.3L LS with a 76mm turbo
Plans are for a 3600 stall converter
Ford 8.8" IRS rear end with 3.23 gears
So, what do you guys think? I know this is the age old debate, but it's not usually being debated for an RX-7...

I don't think you should go with either personally, but if you must have one, it would definately be the 400.. I personally have never heard of anyone "daily driving" a car with a powerglide. If it were me, I would just talk with Performabuilt and have them build me a 4l60. They build some great transmissions and their warranties simply cannot be beat..
I'm using an 8.8" out of an Explorer and have hardened half shafts that are built to adapt to the Mazda outers.
Here's the Ronin Speedworks mount (it bolts into the stock Mazda location):
Also worth noting: I can really do whatever I want for gears, I don't have them yet, but after talking to people "in the know" (ie people with similar setups), the 3.23s are perfect for a turbo car.

get a 700R4 its a 4l60e just not electronic. all you need is either a adapter on the flexplate or i think you can change the input shaft to a LS style one i have a thread about it no one has chimed in yet

The guy asked for opinions on either a power glide or a TH400. He did not ask for opinions on a weaker 4l60e and did not ask for opinions on a weaker 700r4.
The weight savings of a glide are nice, but not THAT big.
If you don't have a decent amount of torque, then daily driving would be rather cumbersome running the glide, from what I am reading.
Since you would not be spraying at every single intersection... I probably would not pick the glide unless you can make 500ft/lbs by 1500-2000rpms.

WOW at some of the bullsit in this thread. To the OP, from what I read in your leadout I would recommed a TH350 or TH400 depending on how much you want to beat on it. The glides are great on the track and are so so on the street if you are used to the long drawn out gears and there only being two of them. They are very sweet in light race cars and ok in light street cars. I know, I have built, owned and driven both. I will give you a comparison - My Coupe weighed 3100-lbs with my big *** in it. I picked the TH400. I was able to pick a better suited convertor for both street and track use (T.B./RMVB/JW3500 10-in.) That combo there my freind is still in the car I just pulled out of the driveway to make room for my new toy. I do hate to admit that this one will be using a glide to start and see if I can settle the car down when it leaves.
