Default To Transgo or No

Ok guys im looking to install a PT4400 in place of my 3200 stall. I dont plan on replacing the stock tranny just yet. Outside of the temp guages I will install so i can monitor the temp, would you guys advise a transgo shift kit? This car is a pseudo daily driver (only on nice days). I have heard from some tranny builders that they charge extra for trannys that have a shift kit already installed.

Thanks,

Mike

Yes! TransGo kits make the trans perform better and increase it's durability (they should hire me! lol). IF your tranny is in good shape, I'd invest in one ASAP. Get the PSK that Summit sells or the HD2 kit. Both are the same.

On top of quicker, firmer, and snappier shifts...the TransGo increases fluid flow to the 3-4 pack which is the biggest down fall of the stock 4L60E. I have ZERO Torque Management on my Z71 for close to 10K mi now and I've had the TransGo and billets for about 20K mi. Trans fluid comes out clean on the 10K interval changes.

Shoot me a PM and I'll get you the drill bit sizes due to the large stall. They are larger and I'm at school so no access to them currently.

The transgo worked good in my original transmission for a while until I ran into problems from the line pressure being too high. I think my problems were caused by having the transgo installed and then me playing with the line pressure tables in LS1 edit.

I will install a transgo, just curious while i have the thing apart are there parts that I should replace (i.e. solenoid?) with something better than stock, just to refresh it?

You should just test the solenoids. They typically work or they don't. The TransGo will come with pretty much everything you need. Also get an aluminum 1-2 accumulator, new filter, new gasket, and that's all I can think of for now.

There is one thing that I would look at when you have the 4L60E apart for the Transgo install. This transmission has a problem from the factory with a somewhat soft seperator plate. (this is what all of those little ball checks hit against) There is a hardned plate available to those that ask for it. I worked mine in the Implala SS 2 years ago and it definitely keeps the shifts tight. After those little holes wallow out the pressures get sloppy. Have had no problems with any Transgo installs yet, I have three 700R4s and a 4L60E done and am working on the next 4L60 for the project truck.

i absolutely recommend doing a trans go shift kit along with a trans cooler. shifts are hard and crisp and that combined with a fairly big stall makes a nice shifting trans.
