Default 4L80e: will it move the car without a controller?

I've finished installing a freshly rebuilt engine and 4L80e transmission. I haven't built a conversion cable yet to connect the transmission to the T42 controller (with 4L65e OS loaded).

I want to start the engine asap to make sure it's all good, no leaks, odd noises, etc. When I do this, it would be best to back the car out of the garage and into the driveway, and then pull it back into the garage afterwards.

As long as everything else in the transmission is ready, will the transmission go into reverse and at least first, or some other forward gear without the computer hooked up to it at all? Is it risky since the pressure control solenoid isn't operational?

Worst case, I could push the car out and back in. But it would be much easier if it could pull itself.

You can do that without worrying about anything. Just don't get too carried away. The transmission will do what you need it to do in order to get the engine up and stable.

Thanks! I just want to idle it out, and idle it back in after it warms up and checks out.

Be ready for the harsh shifts. The pressure control will be at full line pressure and the forward gear defaults to second.

It worked fine guys, thanks.

The shifts into gear weren't too bad either. Maybe because I have a stall converter?
