No 2nd or 4th gear 4l60E A friend is having some issues with his car it's an 02 LSX car and no longer has 2nd gear. You have to drive up to about 25-30 mph and about 2500-3000 rpm and then it will shift into 3rd but only after you let off the gas significantly. Over time 4th would start to slip and now it's completely gone too. There for a while when we still have 4th we thought it was the 1-2 solenoid but we put a new one in and nothing. To be honest my buddy has been dealing with this for a few years...just had other ways of getting around but no money to fix. So the car has sat for a good portion of that. Could anyone help out on what is causing this? He's just hoping he doesn't need to buy a whole new tranny. Thanks a bunch for the help guys.
I have a good friend in your area that could probably help you guys out with this issue. I'm pretty confident that the issue is the 2-4 band providing that your buddy still has reverse. This is going to involve removing the trans and I would recommend freshening up the unit while your in there. If you need anything else feel free to shoot me a PM. Vince
I had this happen but instead of it sometimes having 4th gear I lost 2nd and 4th just like that. Tore the trans down to find that the band broke where the servo pushed on it. And my band was one of those red eagle bands without the reinforced area.
Yup reverse works just fine. Can you just replace the band and be good to go? I'm not well read on rebuilding trannies but my car knowledge is pretty decent. If it's not too crazy I can do it. But if the trans needs a full rebuild count me out.
