Default What is this on my 4L80E flexplate?

Now, I'm no engineer... But it seems to me that whatever this is, is going to throw this flex plate horribly out of balance. Looking at the back side of the flex plate, it doesn't go all the way through like it's riveted or anything. Nor is it welded on on the front side either.

Counter weight for a externally balanced engine. What are you doing? Be sure you have the correct flexplate for your engine.

Like said its a balance weight for an external balance engine like a big block chevy. Ls1 is an internal balance engine. I don't think its the right flexplate for the ls motors.

Yep, looks like the wrong plate to me. They should have both (weighted and non-weighted) available.

Dammit, I just can't win. This is my second flex plate I have bought now. First one was a 4L60E plate with too much dish to it. I'm trying to buy a cheap OEM flex plate to make sure it fits before I drop more money on the SFI plate I want.

I am running a powerglide to a 1999 long crank LQ4 (no spacer, but physically longer crank). I was told I need a 4L80 flex plate. That is how this one was described. However, it did not have a picture of the plate before I bought it. Nor did it say it was for an externally balanced engine.

I may just bolt this one up, see if my converter and starter line up like I am hoping they will, then if they do, I know I can use a flex plate with these dimensions.

Thanks for the replies guys

i wonder if that came off a diesel, not an LS engine-if the diesel had a 4l80e trans, prob why someone gave it to you
just go to the dealer and get one for a 6.0 w/4l80e-if you have a long crank, you wont need the spacer
