Default Question about differences between ls1 4l60e and 3.8L v6 4l60e?

I did some research but can't come to a conclusion.

Some say v6 transmission works with Ls1 motor and only thing needed to change is the bellhousing.

Others say the bolt pattern on the transmissions is different so I 'd need a complete 4l60e from a ls1 car.

Anyone confirm?

Also, What to check for when buying a used transmission? I.E. Leaks?
The donor car I 'm looking at was hit in the front.

TIA

bellhousing is different and so is the input shaft. so you would either have to change torque converters or input shafts. other than that i believe they are the same. i would check fluid color possibly even drop the pan and look for metal shavings, leaks, cracks in case.

depending on the year 93 was all seperate same for 94 and 95. 96 and 97 pretty much all same parts minor differences in the solenoids but thats it. 98-03 are all the same for v-8 and v-6 the differences are the 4 cyclinder motor trannys. Check the pads on the TC to find out if yours is different 298 or 300mm
