4L80E differences...

4L80E differences... Okay, I am still a little unclear on this. Are the differences between different years of the 4L80E... specifically when it comes to bellhousing design?? It seems some people say the GENIII motors have different bellhousings than the older motors, while others say they are the same.
So, did the 4L80E's change when the trucks moved to the GENIII motors or are they all the same??
I already have a remanufactured 4L80E, still in the GM crate, that I am planning on putting behind a 2001 LQ4 6.0L. I am wondering if it will work... I beleive someone said I might need a crank spacer??
I bought the 4L80E from someone else... so I'm unsure what year it was meant for.
