Default 02 HD - 4L80E Weak Reverse

I picked up a 2002 2500HD a few months ago. Ive noticed that something is not right with the reverse. It struggled to back up an inclined driveway and could barely back over a hump in the road. I almost have to put the pedal to the floor to get it to move. After I left off the gas I hear a thud. No problems backing up on flat surfaces and no problems with any of the forward gears.

Any ideas?

What would be locking up in it? If its slipping, I've never felt a trans slip like this. It's not intermittent at all. It just feels as if it can't put the power to the tires.

My 4l80 started slipping in reverse last year and I had to install a longer reverse servo pin to get it to work properly

Interesting. What were the symptoms cabel1? I need to do a little research. Did you have to pull the trans for that or could you access it through the pan?

Sometimes it just wouldn't grab in reverse other times it seemed ok but weak. You need to pull the valve body to get the reverse servo out. GM makes a tool to check what length you need

Turns out it is slipping. I tried to back up my driveway this weekend, which is at about a 20 degree grade, with over a ton of retaining block in the bed and it almost didnt make it up.
