4L80E Intermediate Sprag failure Question

Default 4L80E Intermediate Sprag failure Question

I am rebuilding my first 4L80e and have it 100% apart ready to put back together. I started on the direct clutches and installed them all. Installed my HD2 springs. Then flipped it over to check sprag. IT SPUN BOTH WAYS!! Took it apart and found I had to pry it off the drum. the sparg is a 3 piece the first piece came right off but the bottom piece is stuck on there. The race came right off. There is some scuffs around the inside of the furthest washer in. Its kinda around the inner bore. What would cause this? Wanna make sure theres nothing bigger going on that I missed. Its the Orginal 16 Element. Thanks guys!

If the sprag rolled you will need to get a new drum. The inner and out races should be smooth and Im sure yours have some flat spots in them. Make sure to upgrade to the 34 element hd sprag.

I'm sorry kinda a newb to 4l80e's. What would cause it to "roll"? What to look for and Identify it rolled? Thanks a lot!

Is there any specs to measure the drum to? Or if sprag fails replace drum 100% of time? The drum and race look to be in good shape. The old sprag just had a little damage but was stuck. Thanks guys!
