4l60e input shaft????
Hi all,
Decided to keep my 4l60e transmission and send it out to get rebuilt to help cope with the added power off the engine (approx 550ishfwhp/480-500ishrwhp, plus 150-200hp nos shot down the track).
Anyway, spoke to trans builder that the tuning place uses, the trans place told me they can build me a good shifting smooth driving transmission to suit, but was told the input shafts have a tendancy to break when beat on and there are no real good replacements for them where i am. Did say they have had no real problems except for those guys who have put them behind bigger applications than there built for and headed straight to the drag strip.
Just wondering if anyone has used the tci input shaft kits with good success and anything else i should ask if they can do to strengthen it to take the power and possible revs upto 7-7200rpm?
Also thank you to everyone that helped me choose a convertor, i ended up getting a 3600 hi stall convertor.
Thanks Ben.

The 300mm input shafts starting in 1998 are stronger that the previous ones.
Starting around in 2002, GM began electro-hardening the input shafts on the 4L65E and 4L70E.
The next weak point was the input shaft stripping out of the input drum. Sonnax makes a reinforcement kit for this ($45). Sonnax also sells a hardened input shaft with input drum and reinforcement kit for around $350.
There are also billet input shafts available for around $500.
I have neither heard of output shaft failure nor aftermarket replacement, but perhaps someone else has.

A December 2002 unit is an excellent starting point for a rebuild.
