Please Help Which Converter for my setup?
Hello guys So Going to upgrade my torque converter , Have a 99 LS1 Camaro Z28 Auto, have about 55k on the motor..
Mods: UD Pulley, Lid, Long Tubes, 3" Full Exhaust, 160 thermostat, & 100 Wet Shot.. Trying to get a good Torque converter for daily use.. Maybe hit the track once every 2 weeks or so.. Bust mostly freeway rolls... I will be getting my car tuned along with the converter... Any suggestions on brand and stall? Trying to stay under 3000 stall ... And I will be getting Drag radials for the back.... $$ is some what an issue but for the brand quality I don't mind paying the price tagg

Under a 3000 stall isn't really worth it to most people. What gears do you have?
Most people will say go no lower than a 3400 stall.
Picking a converter can be complicated because there are so many technical specs which feed off each other and can change things. For example, a lower STR won't hit the tires quite as hard as a higher STR but the lower number maintains multiplied torque longer than a high STR would. Higher STR also means the converter will feel looser (looseness also depends on gear ratio and stall speed).
I'd say get a high quality 3600 stall. I recommend FTI, Yank, or Circle-D. They're all great. FTI specializes in more custom spec'ed converters.

So do you suggest calling one of these company's and asking them to make a specific converter for my setup? I'm thinking about maybe circle D..

Yes definitely call and talk to the experts. Chris @ Circle-D is great with customers and questions. The best way to reach him would be to go to his site www.circledspecialties.com and fill out an "Ask Chris". I was looking at his 245mm Pro Series single disk converters for the 4L60E which are designated as 1C, 2C, 3C, etc fro different stall speeds but he also has a B line at least so he has a lot more than what is showcased on the site.

Yes, I would love to help....
Our 278mm 3000-3200 is my first suggestion. This is our entry level converter for a DD F-Body. It will work well in your setup, but to really see what your car can do our 245mm Pro Series will really rock. So it really depends on your goals and budget. Be glad to talk the options over with you, phone or email works for me....
