Improper downshift above 50mph?

Improper downshift above 50mph? Car is stock 2001 trans-am with a 4l60e. The problem is when im going above 50mph and jab the gas (wot) it does not seem to downshift enough rpms only jump to 2,500rpm. but if im doing below 50mph it does perfect downshifts.
