You should have the 6L80 transmission. We have several choices for your setup. Can you fill out our Ask Chris form, link in sig. That will get me your vehicle info and I can help you select the proper stall.

Your 3600 RPM stall with 6L80E gearing makes me wonder, if that much stall is needed. Guess some of that could be engine's cam choice.

You could make the case that 6L80/90 has two 1st gears if you compare it's 2nd gear to T10/M21/M22 close ratio 4 speed manuals 2.20 1st gear. It's RPM retention betweet shifts is the best of GM's electronic transmissions. It's gearing is designed to get weight moving. 1st to 2nd gear shift has the most RPM lost, but again it's a 1st gear in some manual transmissions and that helps getting the lost RPM back quickly. It will blow thru 1st & 2nd gear with stock stall TC, so how much stall is needed.

It has no 1:1 gear so rear gear choice can limit top speed. 3.07 with 26.0" dia tire at 6500 RPM to 142 MPH in 4th and 41 MPH in 1st. Change that to a 3.55 and 4th gear MPH is 123 MPH and 1st gear max MPH is 35. By the way G8 uses a 3.27 rear gear with it's weight, and to match top speed in 4th of manual G8. A C6 corvette with manual trans and 3.42 rear gear and it's 1st gear ratio would need a 4.60 rear gear to match a 6L80 1st gear drive ratio with a 3.07 rear gear.

Below is max MPH at 6500 RPM with 26.0" dia tire and 3.07 rear gear in each gear.

6L80E
1st gear 4.03, MPH @ 6500 RPM = 41.1
2nd gear 2.36, MPH @ 6500 RPM = 70.19
3rd gear 1.53. MPH @ 6500 RPM = 108.27
4th gear 1.15, MPH @ 6500 RPM = 144.04

4L65E
1st gear 3.06, MPH @ 6500 RPM = 54.13
2nd gear 1.62, MPH @ 6500 RPM = 102.25
3rd gear 1.00, MPH @ 6500 RPM = 165.65

4L80E
1st gear 2.48, MPH @ 6500 RPM = 66.79
2nd gear 1.48, MPH @ 6500 RPM = 111.92
3rd gear 1.00, MPH @ 6500 RPM = 165.65

PS: Smoking the tires is not a problem with it's granny geared 1st, and following that into 2nd second gear is easy too....lol

New trucks never run 26 inch tires so all that is basically irrelevant to him.

Besides, the stall speed will care much more about engine powerband and cam selection.
