lq4 + 4l60e = doesnt work
2004 lq4 (short crank snout)
stock ls1 flexplate
yank ss 4000 stall
truck 4l60e with ls1 f body bellhousing
there is a gap about half an inch between the flexplate and the bolt flanges on the torque converter?
i thought it should be a direct fit and not require the spacer from gmpp?

i've always had about a 1/4" gap between my converter/flexplate and just bolted it up tight, and i've never had any problems without shims.
just make sure you progressively tighten each bolt instead of going all the way in, because the one sticking out will catch on the block when you try to spin it for the next bolt.

Called Dave at yank this morning and spoke to him about it... An older transmission even with the removable bellhousing will NOT work. The input shaft and pump are different. Hence the reason i have such a large gap.

So you're trying to use a newer model converter with the older tranny and it doesn't work because the input shaft and pump are different? Did I read that correctly? So if you use a converter for the older style transmission do you need the spacer or not? Or do you know?
The reason I ask is that I wound up with a 4.8 and a 98 4l60e and I cannot for the life of me figure out if I need the spacer or not. I would go out in my garage and check the clearance but I'm about 3000 miles away from it right now so any help is appreciated.

If you have a 98 ls1 transmission you need a new converter. Or if its a truck one like mine you need the old style converter or a custom made one. I ordered the pump stator input shaft and drum for mine to convert it to a newer style transmission.
