Default Help me pick a converter

I just picked up a 98 Trans Am that was extremely well built but cant for the life of me figure out why they put the stock stall back in it? this thing has a forged 365 with a FAST 90/90, TEA CNC ported TFS 225cc heads, Kooks 1 7/8" LTs, FLT lvl 4 trans, and a Moser 12 bolt. it even has the BMR track pack and lots of other suspension goodies. it has a relatively mild cam in the 23x/23x range with a 113 LSA. it drives fine with the stock stall but isnt a tire shredder by any means. he seriously has stock injectors and a stock pump too. what really puzzles me is that Futral Motorsports built and tuned this car. why would they even allow it on the dyno with these HUGE achilles heals. anyway back to the original topic. I am looking for a nice stall for only street duty. Im not looking for 1.2x 60' times. just something to blow the tires off at almost any speed and do this engine justice. Im gonna get it tune with the new injectors and stall. anyone have any input for a good stall? it will need to work in traffic and be very street friendly. there arent any tracks in Hawaii so it wont see any track duty. just some grudge races and occasional rolls on the H3.

If you DD a 3600 would probably be a good converter. I have an ss3600 and I want to go to a 4k on my DD...

It really depends on what you can live with.

well i had a 4500ish stall in my old third gen with a th400 and way too much cam. no lockout and i feel like thatvwas a way too loose stall bc everyone thought i was nuts atvthe stop light. im really looking into the SS4000. what parameters will need to be tuned after the stall?

Better throw a fuel pump on the list of upgrades. I bet it has a converter in it, even if its a small one. A 230 cam would push through the brakes hard coming to stops and be a complete pile of dog **** from a dead stop. For that combo Id go with something like an SS4k from Yank.

I would go with this guy said as well. Had it on my last build and I drove through traffic and good at the strip. Yank makes great stalls. Just my favorite IMO. But I did have a LgG5x4 cam so I needed it.

I would also say that it likely has some type of aftermarket stall. It would struggle to idle with that cam with a stock stall.

If you have 3.73 gears, a Circle D 5C 4000 stall will be a tire fryer and very comfortable to drive. If it's got 3.23 gears, a Circle D 3B 3700 stall would be a great match for that set up. Either of those will serve you well and change the entire feel of that car.

My vote would be a custom FTI. I'm biased because I have one, but this thing is great. It's incredibly tight for having 2.73 gears and a 3600 stall speed, I'll get 22.5mpg mixed locked/unlocked driving and romping it rather frequently. It's efficient up top and still has a great off the line kick.

I also considered Yank and Circle D before buying my FTI. I'd speak to Dave (Yank), Chris (CD), and Greg (FTI) and lay out your wants/needs and they'll give you their best opinion on their offerings and you can decide from there.

I would go with a 3600 as well. I've had a couple cars that I DD with one and it's a good all around stall for the street. I had one with a MS3 cam and it was sooo much fun to drive.

i have 3.73s and the cam isnt too aggressive xonsidering its driving ok on the stock stall now. im leaning towards a 3600 at the moment but i need to confirm with some experts. i really want a break neck stall but id like it to drive well. i wont spend too much time locked up bc we dont have alot of highways around here. i drive into honolulu daily so i will be in traffic and id rather not have to rev the nuts off it to get it moving. the one i have in it now is pretty difficult to drive bc it wants to push through the brakes
