Just swapped transmissions. Trany was out of a 95 trans am and mines a 95 formula. Very rarely it'll actually start off in 1st gear in drive but 9.5 out of 10 times it'll start in 3ed. It'll manually go into 2nd and 3ed. No first and forth. I've read that its most likly its a electronic problem cause everything worked right before the trans was removed to go into my car. But thee fact that it'll very rarely actually work when I first start it I didn't know if that ment something else. I need help asap!! Its my dd so I can't just keep taring it apart guessing what it could be. And yes this is my first tranny swap I am a noob

 

did it throw any codes? I just had a problem like that last night at the track. The computer didnt like seeing me stall it up to 3800 rpm so it locked me in 2nd gear, had 1st gear, just no 3rd or 4th. scanned it, P0502 VSS low input. cleared code and its fine.

 

I haven't had time from work to get it scanned. I know I need to though. Should that be my first attempt?
