Default how does a Trans cooler work?

I was wondering how it works? when is the trans fluid cycled? does it come with a thermostat? just curious how this would work?

the transmission fluid isnt cycled, its continuously flowing through the lines, there isnt any thermostat or anything like that, if you get a tranny cooler its a good idea to keep the fluid flowing through the cooler in the rad as well as the cooler you bought...
