Using torque management, maybe over 7-800hp, without TM it can be cooked with less than 500rwhp.
It's a "clutch to clutch" shifted unit and without TM it's going to go south quick.! clutch has to come off as another is coming on, the timing of which is critical based on load and engine speed.
The th350,400, 4l60 and 4l80 (like other units) achieve the next gear by using roller clutch, or sprag (mechanical diode) whereby a clutch can be on and continue to hold as another clutch (or band) is applied. The 6l80 is a good trans, but not for all-out drag racing or any application that requires 100% of torque to be applied during a gear shift. You can tune it until you are blue in the face, but u WILL kill it......
