RPM or FLT Trans?
I had their level 6 previously, but wanted to step it up this year and not worry about the trans giving me problems. Lots of C5's over on CF running bottom 9's with RPM's Level 6 and at least one in the 8's with their level 7 A4. Jeremy has been great to deal with.
I've heard great things about FLT as well, but for me RPM is where it's at.
I have no experience with RPM, but from what I have seen, they build a quality unit.
As far as I'm concerned there are only 3 builders I would consider if one is going to use a 4l60e and FLT and RPM are 2 of them.
Chuck recommended the Level 4 as it will hold heads/cam + nitrous pretty easily he said. RPM suggested I step up to the Level V if I want to run a bigger motor in the future.
I think they rate their HP/torque numbers a little differently with RPM being a bit more conservative.
The other thing I've seen is RPM has an upgrade path for their stages. If I buy a Level V for example, it's $xx to goto a Level VI and so forth. Waiting to hear back from Chuck after the Holiday weekend to see if they offer the same sort of path. I realize if there are problems in the tear down that cost could go up, but it's nice to know the minimum investment needed to step up in power.
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
I believe they build the best 4l60s around. Granted nothing is fool proof, bullet proof or unbreakable... Also **** does happen from time to time... But I have a lot of confidence in RPMs 4l60.
I haven't ran mine at the track yet with the 4l60, I'm waiting for good winter air, but I feel it will handle the low 9 sec runs I'm expecting.. Lots of C5 guys running mid 9s on them, a few running low 9s and even a couple in the 8s. Do they last forever? NO.. Do I expect to refreshen it after a couple seasons? Yes.. But considering its handling over double the HP the trans was ever intended for, its the price to pay.
My car was making 900rwhp with the stick, now the RPM 4l60e is in there handling the same power.. (Not sure what the rwhp is now tho...probably 800 or so).
The customer service alone from RPM makes it worth the purchase.
Great product, great service, talked me out of spending more $$$ with them than I needed to, etc.
Pretty much THE company of choice for big power 'Vette guys.
