I have a b & M hammer shifter on my Th400 and it's very hard to shift. I was just curious if this is normal. It kinda sucks for driving because you really have to be agressive with it. I was considereing putting in a cheetah shifter but I'm not sure I like the looks of it in the car. Thanks for any feedback.

some rebuilders put a washer on the rooster spring, that makes the shifter stiff. l would check that first. rooster spring, that's the thing that makes the click click when you move the shifter jk

When you say very hard, do you mean you have to literally yank it back with both hands or something? I mean, there should be some pressure, you don't want it to shift by just resting your hand on the shifter.
I like mine a lot.

It is very very tough to just pull back to shift. I pretty much have to get my hand in front of it and push down on it to shift.

If the trans lever is easy to move with the cable disconnected your cable may have been bent or kinked somewhere. The cable they supply is pretty fragile, make sure its not kinked anywhere and it doesnt have any sharp bends.

Mine shifts very easy, it was a little stiff at first but loosened up a lot after a few days.

BTW, if the cable was bent or kinked bad at one time it usually has to be replaced. The spot that gets most people is where the cable goes through the floor. Usually the angle is a little off and when the shifter gets tightened down it gets in a bind.
