Default Transmission bolt question

Ok so this is probably a dumb question and kinda embarrassing haha...well we dropped my transmission in my 02 ws6 4l60e...well I tried for about an hour to get the top bolt in and couldn't get it...this is the 4th time dropping it and re installing it and never had this problem before...when I looked at the bolt it had shavings all over it...the bolt just would not go in the block at all...all the other bolts were perfect...so I was running out of time and had to get it out of my friends garage, so I put everything back together and have been driving it...do u think this could cause a problem? I know it's not the best idea but will it be ok? I will be doing a motor swap in about 2 months anyways...oh the reason i dropped it is to put a 4k stall in.

The top bolt is always a bitch and you probably cross-threaded it this time.
IMO, leaving it out should not be a problem; lots of people leave it out and/or the top bell housing hole often gets cracked and broken off.
Also, people that install e.g. a TH400 don't even have the option of installing that bolt.
Since I'm not an expert on this, you might want to watch for other opinions.

The dowel pins hold the assembly together and keep them from moving. The bolts are there to hold the engine and trans together.

It should be fine.
