Default Question About Transmission Pan

Heres my problem... I bought this car a few years ago and it has a aftermarket trans pan on it,, i know because it has a drain plug in it... Question is,, is it a deep pan or a standard pan... How deep is a stock pan from the bottom of the pan to the trans... how deep is a deep pan from the bottom of the pan to the trans... thanks.

That is a bit of a tricky questions. If your pan has a drain plug then it isn't stock and will be deeper than the stock pan is. How much deeper is the question.

These are the three most popular swaps for a trans pan:
1) Stock truck pan. It is still stamped steel but has a drain plug and carries 1qt of extra fluid
2) TCI cast aluminum deep pan. Drain plug, finned bottom and has 2qts of extra capacity. You can tell this one as it has TCI Automotive cast into the bottom front section of the pan
3) B&M cast aluminum deep pan. Drain plug, finned bottom and has 3qts of extra capacity. You can tell this one as it has B&M cast into the bottom middle of the pan

I believe there is even a pan out there that has 4qts of extra capacity I just can't remember it off the top of my head. So each of them will have different heights. Put it in the air and take a look at the pan and take some pics like 01ssreda4 suggested and it will help us to help you.

Here is the depth of a stock 4L60E pan for reference

That looks like a chromed pan. Which would explain why it is all rusted on the side. The chroming tends to flake off causing that and will also cause leaks along the gasket. If it is 1 inch deeper than stock I would hazard a guess that it probably holds an extra quart but I couldn't say for certain.
