Just curious if anyone can give me some thoughts on what may be wrong with my trans.

It's been a concern since I bought the car. The guy I bought it from said the previous owner had rebuilt it himself, and as far as I understand it he never really drove it, decided it was not what he wanted and sold it.


It drove and shifted fine when I got it, then one day it started bouncing off the limiter when going WOT. Shortly after that it started slipping when giving it more than about 1/3 throttle.

It does it in first and I think second, though I try not to give it much throttle until I get my spare trans rebuilt.

Also as weird as it sounds if I put it in manual 1st it really feels like it is slipping at any throttle when taking off from a stop, but if it's in D it takes off normal.

No codes for anything trans related.

I'll probably tear it down when I pull it just to find out for sure.

 

Some other thing to add

Trans fluid looks good, doesn't smell burnt

When it warms up the shift from 1st to 2cnd gets softer, sometimes there is a slight shudder when it shifts.
