Default 4L60E or 6L80E ??????

Hello all,
I know I'm new to the forum but I have been reading on here for awhile.
I'm building an LY6 with LS3 cam heads intake etc. I also plan on using an ECM from the chevy performance catalog that gives the LS3 430 horses. thats plenty for me. I want to put a 6L80E behind it but I don't know if it will work with that ECM. I've also read that the 6L80E is a little sketchy and hard to tune. How does the 6L80E link up with the engine ECM? Whats involved? can anybody help me out? Thanks

Don't know what kind of budget you are working with but TCI makes a nice standalone controller for the 6l80e, can even get paddle shifters if your pocket allows...

I doubt the GM Performance PCMs will control a 6L80E, but they will control a 4L60E or 4L80E.
What kind of vehicle is the LS3 going into?

Wildcamaro: I could not find any info on a TCI controller for the 6L80E. Please give us a link.

I did find this useful info from Gearstar:
http://www.lsxtv.com/news/gearstars-new-6l80e-trans/

From the tiny bit I understand about the 6L80E, it cannot handle WOT shifts and must therefore work with the main PCM to significantly reduce engine torque during the shifts.

In summary, if you are swapping in an LS3, I would consider the 4L80E, but not the complex, big and heavy 6L80E.
Note that GM Performance sells their standard LS3 "Connect and Cruise" package with a 4L65E, and their supercharged LS3 with a 4L80E.

Thanks guys. I don't really know much about transmissions. This engine may be going into
A '54 Chevy 3100. It's my brothers. I'm just building the engine to learn about it. It's fun for me and it lets me spend time with my brother. If he decides to buy it then great but not I'll keep it or sell it I don't know. The truck is gonna be a cruiser. It needs good performance but it won't ever be raced or flogged. Needs to be reliable and comfortable.

Not sure if its been mentioned or not, but you'll need a harness, so your computer will recognize the different transmission. I ordered mine from Speartech.com and I wanna say it was around $165

Depends on who is doing the calibration, I can make that work no problem.
