Default 4L60E Questions

So guys I picked up a B4C at an auction a couple of weeks ago and it has a broken flexplate due to a bolt coming out of the rear engine cover. I am pulling the tranny to fix the obvious problem, but I want to do a few upgrades since I'm doing the work to pull it anyway. I am relatively new to auto cars so please bare with me.

A couple things to consider is it does have about 80k miles and I am planning on using it as a daily driver with visits to the strip probably about once a month.

1. What stall torque converter would be good, the car will likely just be a bolt-on car until I save up for a 416 and 4L80E?

2. When adding a transmission cooler, do you still run the fluid through the stock cooler?

3. What is the best cooler to run?

4. Would it be a good idea to install a shift kit on a tranny with this many miles and if so which do you recommend?

5. What tranny fluid do you recommend? I like RP products, but I have read that it may be too slick for this application.

I am sure I will have many more questions once I get it in and determine that the tranny is in good enough shape to start tuning on.

1. Yank ss3600 is great for daily driving and really gives some punch

2. That's a highly debated subject, do a search tons of articles

3. B&M is most popular 70264 or 70274

4. Just get a tune for higher line pressure, no shift kit needed

5. Regular plain old dex 3

1) Agree.
2) Why not use both to get maximum efficiency?
3) Agree, but plenty of other choices too.
4) Disagree. Higher line pressure isn't necessarily a good answer.
5) Agree.

1. Agree. If you never go to the strip I would choose something around 2800.
2. Yup debatable. IMHO, if you run a stock engine thermostat (220?) I would
skip the stock cooler as I think it will often heat the ATF. If the engine
runs at e.g. 180F, I would run it first into the stock cooler than the
extra cooler, in that order.
3. Agree and other choices too.
4. A modest increase with a tune would be OK, but avoid a hacker that
increases it too much. Alternatively install just a Sonnax .490 Boost
valve which will moderately increase pressure, including max pressure
at WOT. Simple 5 minute install when the pan is off.
5. Agree.

Thanks guys, I will pick up one of the Sonnax boost valves. I was hesitant with the shift kit on drilling the valve body.

As far as the Torque Converter I was originally considering a 3200 stall Circle D, but if the 3600 doesn't affect drivability much more I would always like to knock off an extra tenth or so.

Lastly, sorry my post to start the thread was apparently my first on this site. Its one of my pet peeves that people join and start a thread with their first post, but I've been lurking for a while and will hopefully be able to give some knowledgeable input on other topics.

Glad to have you participating. Better than stalking.

Assuming the trans is '96 through '05, you want the Sonnax 4l60E-LB1 boost valve. The pump design changed in '06 (with ISS) and that takes a different boost valve.
