or is it best to put the converter in then headers? SLP headers.

You can swap converter with headers on. Sometimes it helps to disconnect the Y-pipe, but it is not always necessary. I don't have SLP's, so I can't tell you for sure. The tranny doesn't need to come out; just back enough to reach in and swap the converter. If you remove the driveshaft, that is generally enough and the tranny only needs to come down a few inches.

Do yourself a favor and get rid of the SLPs. Remove the exhuast and go to town on the converter, it'll make the install a little easier with the exhuast out of the way
