Hey guys..just put a new trans in a 07 avalanche and it says to reset the computer to factory settings..anyone know how i can do this?..what tool will do it. I have hp tuners will that do it? Thanks for any input.

 

A fresh flash through HP tuners would do it. Pulling the pcm power will reset most learned data. A code reader will clear your stored/written fault codes. Really just depends on what exactly they mean.

 

They say the truck has learned how to shift with the wore out trans and with a new one it needs to be set back the factory settings.

 

A fresh flash of the same tune would do it for sure. No learned data is transfered ever to my knowledge.

 

Pull 12v. That will clear the nvm...

 

Pulling power does not reset written fault codes. I know, I've tried it, and its been like this for 15 years. Read up fella.

 

LOL... I'm glad you think you know what I am talking about. Its not faults he's clearing, he just needs to reset the learned adaptive controls. Again, Pull 12v, wait 5 min, go for a drive.

 

And I'm stating that for the last 15 years not all "learned" data is reset, and I specifically named written fault codes. If you are saying what he needs to do requires only simply removing PCM power for 5 minutes then why doesn't the service manual simply state that? And, if what you said is true, its already been mentioned. So congrats, you've contributed nothing You aren't schooling anyone.

 

I certainly don't know which "learned" parameters get reset by cutting the power; it would be useful to see a list of which get reset and which don't.

If you have tuning software like HP-Tuners or EFI-Live, you can download the current tune to a file and immediately upload it again; I also believe this resets everything. Of course this will cost you tune credits, but you probably have already used them for this car.
