Mating older 4L80E to 5.3L engine
I have a 5.3L out of a 2001 Sierra. I also have a flat flex plate for a 6.0L 4L80E combo. Now the trans is a 4L80E out of a 1993 Suburban.
Do any of you know if there will be any issue with bolting this up? Specifically with bolting up the torque converter to the flexplate and the clearance required so i dont wreak a pump.
I have been reading a bit about people having issues with torque converters and mating them to flexplates, issues with the converter hub and flexplate.
I guess i am asking if my combo is bolt up compatible or do i need a different converter? THe converter is stock from 1993.

Definitely concerned about correct engagement into the transmission. I guess whether the converter is in deep enough or in too far or not far enough. What is the procedure for checking this?
I do have a spacer currently in the car for the 5.3 concaved flexplate. I got it from GM. Wondering if this is the spacer tonytone is referring to?

you will need to upgrade your PCS solenoid & drill vent hole in valvebody aswell as get a newer 94+ separator plate. also if it has an original internal harness you will need to replace with the updated version as the case connector is physically different.
