Its fairly easy to drop the trans, that doesn't really require any special knowledge. I'm sure there's a write up on the forum, do a Google search for it. As for tips and special advice I have none as I never did it, but was looking into doing it for my converter swap. I just remember it was fairly easy.

The 12 'Clock bolt is the most difficult to get out, especially on a Gen-4. A common technique (after removing the driveshaft) is to support the trans with an adjust jack and remove the rear trans mounting. Then lower the trans until you can reach that bolt with 3 1-ft long extensions. Take out the 10:30 bolt then too. You can then level the trans again to remove the other bolts. In brief:
1. Remove driveshaft.
2. Remove starter (may need to remove header and/or part of exhaust too.)
3. Remove the three torque converter bolts.
4. Remove the upper bolts (as above) and the lower bolts.
5. Only loosed the 4 bolts at 9:00 and 3:00, but loose enough for 1/8" play.
6. The trans is still connected with 2 dowels; with corrosion they can be very difficult to loosen. Wiggle the tailshaft to loosed the dowels, persuasion may be needed; the 4 loose bolts will prevent the trans from falling while you loosen the dowels.
7. Remove the last 4 bolts and slide the trans back and off.

It's easy to pull it. I used to have a link for a how to guide but can't find it now first time ever doing it took me about 1.5 hours. pull the driveshaft, drop the exhaust, pull the starter, pull the bolts for the flexplate/converter, drop the crossmember while supporting the trans with a jack and pull the bellhousing bolts. i'll try and find the writeup.
