Default Identify potential mods to TH400

Guys,

I recently picked up a TH400 in unknown condition, with unknown mods. The seller believes it may have been rebuilt, but he bought it with an engine, and had no intention of using the transmission, so it hasn't tested it and doesn't know what its had done to it (if anything).

Is there any way I can check to see what might have been done to it without requiring any specialised tools?

Looking at the exterior I can see it's had a fresh coat of paint, the vacuum modulator has been removed and the case plugged, and a larger hole on the opposite side of the case near the rear has been plugged.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ok so I know my questions were pretty vague... Maybe we'll just worry about the 1. Are there any speciality tools I require to pull this box down to a point where I can tell if its been rebuild/enhanced in any way?

If I can confirm that it's full manual, that'd be enough to get me out of trouble.

Tear it down,
post pics, I'll tell you what you have.

You'll need basic SAE wrenches and sockets.
3/8" 12 point thinwall socket, 7/16", 1/2", and 9/16".
Snap ring pliers (blue point PR15 work great) and some small snap ring pliers for the pressure regulator.
Big flat tip screwdriver.
Couple of small picks
