Default LS6 + 4L80E? What am I getting myself into?

I'm debating between a 6.0 and a 405hpLS6 swap (due to cost diff and weight).

Id like a 4L80E to back it, but is it upto the task? 1/2 ton, 4x4, 3.73 gears and 33'' tires. No towing other than MAYBE 700-800lbs at all. There could be some recovery effort but other than that; it wont see towing regularly at ALL. It might haul a few hundred lbs of people and snowboard gear. 'bout it.

Would you suggest a 4L60 built up or a 4L80 swap. Keep cost in mind here.

Furthermore; does it bolt right up? anything special needed?

also, what are the gear ratios for these two transmissions. If one has a steeper 1st gear or a OD; that would def be taken into concideration.

4L60/65E

First: 3.059
Second: 1.625
Third: 1.000
Fourth: .0696
Reverse: 2.294

4L80/85E

First: 2.482
Second: 1.482
Third: 1.000
Fourth: 0.750
Reverse: 2.077

From what i've heard you need a new cross member and wiring harness for a 4L80 swap. The initial cost of the 80 may be more... but the cost of several 4L60's(after you blow them ) will get you

I dont really mind paying an extra couple of bucks if its needed. But to do it so I can pound my chest and declare myself the manliest man on the internet isn't really modivation for me.

What am I looking at for everything I need to swap a 4L60E in? I get special deals on LS6' and 6.0's  I think I'll go LS6 for an extra grand though if the 4L80 can handle it? Can it? LS6 + half ton + 33 tires + 3.73s?

If not, thats not a big deal either. I personally know a GM transmission test engineer that tests them on all the new cars coming out (bastage knows about the c6 Z06 and wont spill the beans!). He would help me build it up and all; but I just dont want to do it for ***** and giggles. I also dont want to be asking for his help to rebuild the 4L60 8 times a year.

All you need is a transgo shift kit and the 4L80E will hold all the power you want from that LS6. There are guys on this board that run major power through the 80 and haven't killed it, Parish8, L-eater, and i think GMC SKI.

How much power are you planning on running with the z06 motor? If you leave it stock you may be able to get away with a heavily modified 4L60, but the second you add some boost or other major mods you can kiss that 4l60E goodbye, no mater how much $$ you pour into it. The reason the car guys get away with the 4L60 is becasue the vehicles weight a considerable amount less and that helps the trany to live.
