Default 4l60e tranny to LS1

I have an 06 colorado with the i5 with the 4l60e tranny bout to swap it for an LS1 from my understanding i need to change the bellhousing and the shaft any one have anymore knowledge to help me with this whole swap would be appreciated

I had to look it up, but I see the "i5" is a V6 engine. That means the trans has a 298mm input shaft and not the 300mm input shaft needed to directly mate to an LS engine.
Changing the trans is not a reasonable option as it will require a rebuild and many parts including input drum with shaft, pump and bell housing.
Instead, use a 298mm converter (called an LT1 converter), a spacer on the flexplate to extend the pilot hole and longer crank bolts for the spacer. You may also need to elongate the converter holes in the flexplate. All this has been covered dozens of times here in just the last year.
