4L80e Track Techniques
I have a boneyard 4L80e with an HD2 kit and Ive searched but can't seem to find a real answer. At the local track (1/8th mile so no 4th needed). Do I put the shifter in "D" or "OD"? Does it matter? As far as burnouts go start in 1st to break em loose then shift up to 2nd at low throttle/wheel speed seems to be the general consensus? I just bought some super sticky Hoosiers and don't want to wad the sprag up doing a burnout
Yes I know there is similar thread about 4L60s

I let my shift into 3rd during a burnout. The. 80 likes to break sprags when a sticky tire hooks in second. Also I leave with the shifter in 1st. I believe it's the overruns that apply when in manual 1.
yup.... 3rd gear itself is fine for a burnout... the problem with 3rd gear burnouts is if the computer commands a 3-2 downshift while the tires are still spinning and slowing down and gripping when you let off. this is what jake has said in the past.
