Default 4L60E or 4L65E

I have an LS2/4L6xE dropout from an '06 GTO. I thought all along that the tranny was a 4L60E, but I've been doing some reading lately that says the later GTO's had the 4L65E.

Does anyone know for sure what came in the 2006 GTO?

How do you identify a 65 versus a 60?

The 4L65e has 5-pinion planets, 7 (instead of 6) frictions in the 3/4 clutch and a hardened input shaft.
There is no way to tell the difference from the outside; the case number is the same, etc.

Around 2003 GM made a few strength improvement to all 4L60E/4L65E, including a hardened sun shell.

Well, that's a relief. Maybe I can go a little longer without worrying about a rebuild.
