Well I got it back in the car. Went through the gears just sitting there and everything was around 200-210. Go out and take it for a little spin and roll into 3rd and spun the tires pretty hard. Come to a stop and now 3 rd is reading 150 at idle, and so are all of the other gears, but 1-3 go back up to normal when I am driving, which is around 230-240. Is that something to be concerned with? I'm guessing so?

Pressure at idle warm will almost always be less than above idle. The pump doesn't make full volume at idle. A pump in good shape will usually make full pressure by 12-1300 rpm.

What was identified as the problem?

He really didn't find anything that he could see. Pump was in excellent shape, tolerances were in spec, and all the air checks were fine. So everything I said seems fine? Reverse was around 200-210 and now it's around 150 at idle but goes back to normal giving it gas.

Took it out again after the last rebuild and got about the same amount of passes (8) as last time and fried high gear again. Could it be my case not handling the 1k hp?
This info off of Reid's website in regards to their aftermarket case sounds exactly like what is happening.

You could have a case problem but direct clutch failure isn't caused by any weakness in the stock case.

Hmm. I just know I am about at my wits end with this crap. It's been air checked, valve body plate dowel pinned, VB studded, billet fwd clutch hub, bigger shaft for main drum, etc.

You need to have someone who specializes in racing transmissions look at AND dyno it.
It sounds as if your builder never determined the root cause of the failure. Until you do that and fix it, you will continue to get practice removing and installing it.

He has built numerous th400s for a bunch of people around the area and they've never had these issues. Everything checks out on his tranny dyno. He took measurements and he knew that the clutches got so worn down it destroyed one of the seals.

Clutches don't typically wear to speak of unless something is wrong.

If you are happy with the work/results, I guess that's all that matters.

Shoot me a PM for pricing to look it over and fix it. I would prolly pull it and drive it up there since I live in Waco.

Now that's a solid vendor there! Way to go Jake's!

Also, that pictures of the circuits color coded was very cool to someone who has no knowledge of transmission internals!
