Default Yank SS3600 Lockup or Not

My question is will it kill my Yank SS3600 if I lock my converter at WOT in 3rd say above 5000 rpm? Will this improve my mph in the 1/4? Anybody have some data? Thanks

It will probably hold it a few times, and no its not guaranteed to make your car any faster. When it tears the lockup clutch up, and you need your entire trans and converter removed, disassembled, and cleaned.....well that will be an eye opener for you.

If the clutch is burnt, they probably wont warranty it either. Its a lose/lose IMO. Others may argue that though....

I agree with 01ssreda4. There are threads here where the OP's converter was locked during a dyno run causing the converter to fail immediately or shortly thereafter.
You should only lock the converter under WOT if you have a triple disk converter which are typically in the $1000 range.

It's a surface area issue. When you shrink the diameter of the lockup clutch from 12" to 9.75", you loose a lot of holding capacity. Like the others have said, don't do this on a single disk. A multi disk on the other hand would love it.

This may be off topic, but how come people dyno cars with the converter locked and it not have any issues afterward? I had my ss3600 locked during a few dyno runs and its fine.

Loads on the dyno don't directly simulate real world street conditions unless it's a special load bearing dyno. Bolt on power may be fine, but I have cut a lot of torque converters with burnt up single clutch linings from people doing exactly this.
