what is the stall on a stock converter

I think that stock converter stalls at like 1600-1700rpm with an STR of about 1.6. 
God I hate the way the barf icon looks, it's disgusting.......

I was told to put the car in 2nd (A4) and break hard and give it gas until the rpm hangs. When I did it I had it stop at 2000 rpm. That meant I have a 2000 stall.
BS? Who knows.... If someone can confirm the stall for a stock 01' ws6 as 2000 then it works. But if you try it have room in front of you so you do not hit a wall.
