Default Flexplate and hub adapter confusion.

Hello.

I am trying to mate Lq4 engine with th400 gearbox.

being stupid and straight on guy I just bought a SFI flexplate for SBC with 168T count. Guess what? It does not fit.

Did some search afterwards and I fount that SBC crank flange bolt patter, or PCD changed, when they changed two piece seal to one piece seal design. Two piece seal seal crank flange has wider PCD then one piece.

Does anybody know if one piece crank bolt pattern is the same as LSX? Refering to LSX I meen ls1-ls6.

My goal is to buy decent quality stamped SFI flexplate with 168T ring on it. I still going need to make an hub adapter/crankspacer for TH400 converter. Since I am running midplate for engine transmission mount.

There is one more thing.

Originally engine came with flat type flexplate and crank adapter which looks like this:

And that is the bolt PCD difference between the flexplate and original one which is laying under:

You are probably going to need to ditch the crank spacer and use one of the SFI flexplates with the built in offset. What converter are you planning to run? Depending on the bolt pattern, that will help determine your flexplate options. And how thick is the mid plate?

Midplate is 1/4" thick. I wss under impression, that if I use th350/400 converter, I have to compensate distance between crank and gearbox with that spacer. I don't mind using the spacer with this crank, because in the future I will build a stroker engine with other crank that I have. Since I have truck crank now with thicker flange and in the future I will need to use spacer anyway.

If you pulled the spacer off your crank, then you have the short crank. Some early LQ4s had the spacer built in, what we call the long crank. When you get a SFI flexplate, they have the offset built into them so they do not require a spacer for proper starter alignment. You will need to make sure the flexplate has the correct bolt pattern for the converter and you will need what we call a pilot extension so the converter pilot can reach the crank. Let us know if you have the long crank or short.

For the mid plate you will need to get spacers for the converter and depending on the converter setup an even longer pilot extension.

Finally got some more data on this thing. I need a flexplate with 10,75 an 11,5 mounting bolt circle. What I have it is a big 11" BTE spragless converter with steel stator for 1500hp+ aplications. Got a killing deal on it, could not pass it.
