Default Transmission Oil Filter...

Am going with a conventional spin-on engine oil filter that fits the filter head, and utilizing a tranny oil pressure gauge to determine any pressure drops initially, if any...and into the future.

Guess no one else is using a remote trans filter.
I suspect many are asking "why"?
With routine street driving you can go 100,000+ miles on the original fluid and filter.
I just checked with Chuck at FLT, and he said that the cooling line pressure can get into the 120 psi range, which is about twice that of typical engine oil pressure. Might that be too much for a spin-on filter gasket?

Everyone with heavier duty trucks, than what is generally talked about on this site, all have remote transmission oil filters from the factory, or added later. They expect their trucks to travel many hundreds of thousands of miles & do. Also, coming from the offshore powerboat business, I'm a durability buff. "Most" all add-on tranny cooler push-on hoses are simply held in place with a #6 hose clamp, which is questionable on a 120 psi system. But, I guess its possible. Risky...but possible. I'm really surprised no one with a 4L60E or comparable transmission has considered a remote filter for durability over the years. Heat and debris is what kills all automatics.

Thank you for the information about heavy duty truck transmission filters.
It just seems no one is using an external trans filter on LS vehicles.
However we always recommend, and many are using, an external cooler.

Thumbs up As a follow-up...

...I installed a new reconditioned 4L60E with new converter, large additional tranny cooler in front of the radiator, and a B & M brand remote transmission oil filter assembly. All plumbed with new Aero-Quip FC-332 Push-Lok blue hose & brass Push-Lok fittings. Not a hose clamp in sight, lol. Thanks for everyones help on this site.
