Since no one chimed in, I decided to look it up on the B&M site.
As far as I can tell, it is strictly a 3 speed shifter; hence you could not force first gear.
I use the B&M megashifter and it supports 4 speeds.
However I have never had the need or desire to force it into first gear.

With the B&M megashifter I found it very difficult to shift into Reverse with my 4L60E due to the stops built into the trans. The safety action of the shifter and the stiff stops of the trans were fighting each other.
I therefore (finally) reduced the tension of the shifter spring in the trans and it is much better now.

The 4L60E is a 4-speed transmission. Nowadays "OD" just means trans gear ratios less than "1.00". Call it an OD transmission if you want, but to fully control it you need a 4-speed shifter.
