I am running a 9 friction setup in my SmartTech drum. Using Raybestos GPZ 105 (.066) frictions with perhaps one or two GPZ 100 (.078) to get the desired clearance in the .035 to .040 range. Or use BW Hi-Energy (Green) frictions.
.078 steels. Also the thickest .215 apply ring.

Sonnax recommends the 3/4 load release spring and supplies special one for this input drum.

Note that the SmartTech drum comes with their input shaft reinforcement ring and a custom overrun piston which fits around that ring. Therefore, you have to use either an old-style aluminum forward piston or the expensive Sonnax billet forward piston.
Alternatively FinishLine Transmissions can sell you their (less expensive) custom overrun piston which will work with the stronger new-style steel forward piston.
