Broken th400 bellhousing, is my converter okay?
The title essentially gets across the question that I'm asking.
Little info on the incident. ....swapped a th400 into my 2004 gto. Lasted a summer and a half or so and maybe 8k miles at 700whp and it needed a rebuild. Had it freshened up and slapped her back in. Not even 5 miles later during a 3rd gear pull all hell broke loose at 100mph.
Bellhousing broke clean around the entire trans and promptly caused my driveshaft to explode.
So my question is, has anyone had this happen and the torque converter end up being okay to use still?
Seems like it would mess some stuff up but I'm not really sure. Im just trying to avoid sending it off for a useless 250 dollar inspection if I really don't need to.
Thanks

If you have internal trans damage, some metal could be in the converter. And who knows if the pump drive is bent or damaged? The flexplate could be damaged as well. It is "easier" and cheaper to have it checked out now before installing it again.
The transmission it's self is getting inspected right now. Dropped that off last friday, the converter is what im wondering about.
I'm going to look at the flex plate myself here soon to make sure it is still okay.
I don't think anything inside got damaged and it only ran for maybe 10 sec after the initial break. When the car stopped everything sounded fine and it was still in gear. I did however make a dumb mistake of putting it in park for w/e reason while everything in the trans was turning still lol.
Parking gear made some nice noises lmao, oh well. I was kinda in shock after all that happened. Wasn't thinking abouy how park wasn't gonna hold the car anymore without the driveshaft haha.
Trans shop said more than likely nothing in the trans got messed up even. He said he has seen a few ppl break the bell like me and find nothing wrong inside.
My main thing is I'm trying to find other ppl that have done the same thing and just re used their converter without any problems. It is probably okay and I'm just over thinking it....who knows
