Planetary Question

So i just had my 2007 4L65E rebuilt,i threw in everything Sonnax has to offer.
My buddy informed me that it had a 4 pinion planetary in it after he rebuilt it.
Is this a big issue?

There has never been a problem with the strength of 4 pinion planetaries. I have built and helped many build their transmissions over the years in 9, 10 & 11 second vehicles using 4 pinion planetarys, no failures at all. Compare the pinion size of these to a TH350, TH400 or 2004R, no one questions their strength. The gears are massive in comparison to these mentioned. The only time I hear of failures is when someone has made the 1-2 shift very hard all the time, part throttle and WOT. Any gear set will gradually "go away" from this. On the 4L80E or TH400 if you make the 1-2 shift at part throttle very firm to brutal you can roll over the 34 element sprag because of this. The other effect of very firm to brutal part throttle shifts is you ruin the splines on the planetaries and twist or crack other parts making them not reusable for a rebuild. This I have seen many a time.

That sounds weird, part of the what makes a 4L65E is the fact it has the 5 pinion planetary. Has that trans been rebuilt before? I just tore apart my stock tranny from my 06 TB and it has the 5 pinion. As PBA said there isn't an issue but if it's a true 06+ 4L65E it should have it already.
