Default Not sure about this.

I'm about to buy a 99 T/A with a functional ram air hood. It has 2.73 gears which I plan to swap out for some 3.42's. It also has a Flowmaster, not a catback though. Just a muffler. Other than that it's completely stock.

For the fisrt mod I plan to install SFC's. I figure that would be the best first mod to the car considering it strengthens the car's weak points.

Now here's the question: Would it be safe to install a TCI 3800 stall with a shift kit and cooler on the car with only the following things above?

The reason I'm asking is because I was wondering if that convertor would rip the car apart because i wouldn't have anymore suspension or chassis work done to it. I plan to do that right after the convertor and gears. Along with wider wheels and better tires!

It's not going to be my daily driver. It will be a street car with track use. Just in case you need to know.

So, what do you think?

Thanks!

o man...we here so many stories like this. well first do a "search" but to get you started......what are your future plans for the car? thats an awesome converter you have chosen but i hear alot of good things about the TCI3500. i have a vig 3200 and love it. for the suspension i would get an adj pan hard, and some LCA's. you will haveta get some drag radials also. just figure out what you want the car to do...

My future plans are to mod it and drive it. Go figure huh? haha!

Really, I plan to put on a PHR and LCA and the BMR trakpak with driveshaft loop. Also plan to lower the car with springs and shocks and LCA brackets. The usual stuff like that to prevent wheel hop and get better traction and to keep the back of the car together. And as always wheels and tires! Drag radials of course. I was thinking about getting the ZR1's. I really love the look of those. Plus they're 11" wide.

I guess I was just wanting to know if all the stock stuff would hold up until I was able to do more work to it. I just thought the entire rear end assembly would rip apart on the first launch because of stock components.

I plan to take it to the track as many times as possible. So I guess it would lean more towards track use than street.

Sorry if this is a repeated question. I'll do a search and see what I can find. Thanks!

stock stuf will hold up, but you haveta understand that i will hold up under wear and tear. it will probably take a **** on u if you beat it up. seeing that you will be going to the track alot it wil proabably take a **** on u. i would get a TCI3500. since u might be lowering it then i would go with eibach or DMS. both very good springs, and i would get some Bilstein HD's. good luck to ya!

I run an SS4000 converter with 423 RWHP which nets 1.55 60fts and 11.2s in the 1/4. I have no SFCs, a stock reared, and the only suspension mod I have is a set of LCA relocators. That's it.

You have no worries. These cars are tougher than you think.

Thanks for the replies!

I've never owned an LT1 or LS1 F-body before. So, I have no experience with F-bodies. Last toy I had was a 76 Corvette and the technology from then to now is completely different.

Thanks again for the help!
